LUKE- example
Update 07/19:
Good afternoon! What a long week its been. Luke has started to pick up on everything we've been working on. He has gone from taking 10 minutes to sit before coming out of the run, to under 3 minutes. We work on his threshold manners on every interaction. It's important for him to be as calm as possible before entering a new situation.
We work on leash pressure and loose leash walking daily as well. If there's pressure on the leash, I stop walking and he is required to sit before I take another step. We do this from the dog run, to the door, to the off leash area and back. While in the off leash area, I have him follow me around off leash. Rewarding with food every few steps and also, incorporating super sits.
While in the off leash area, we work on his recall. When he is roaming around, I will call him back to me. I only reward with food if he goes into a sit automatically. If he doesn't, I redirect and reward with only his freedom as the reward. Going into the automatic sit, he gets two rewards. The food and the freedom. The food is only used as a primary reward for a short time and freedom will then become the primary. Freedom is a form of life reward which will always produce a more reliable dog when used properly.
He is unsure of the swift paws lure course. Which I was definitely surprised over. I have been trying to find some other toys/games that provide the correct motivation. Motivation is one of the most important aspects of dog training.
